This weekend promises to an absolute barnstormer for the barn with stable stars Proxy and Purrfect looking for huge graded stakes glory!
But before we take a look at their chances, let’s rewind the clock to last weekend, and a lovely win for Susan Moulton’s Tufani at Laurel Park.
Given a patient ride by Jevian Toledo, Tufani won by an easier-than-it-looked 1 1/2 lengths. This three-year-old daughter of Distorted Humor is now 2 for 3, and a bigger stage surely awaits.
And now to tomorrow’s $1 million GI Stephen Foster Stakes at Ellis Park, a hugely competitive contest over 1 1/8th miles in which the stable’s Proxy is a 4-1 shot on the Morning Line.
A GI winner already (and winner last time out of the G2 Oaklawn Handicap), Proxy faces a tough draw from the inside post. He also faces tough contenders in the likes of West Will Power and Rattle ‘N Roll. But with Joel Rosario on board, this Godolphin homebred stands a bang up chance of bringing home graded stake win number three tomorrow.
Over at Woodbine, Purrfect is drawn 6 of 9 in the $175,000 G2 Nassau Stakes, a mile contest on the turf.
Another Godolphin homebred, Purrfect was a lovely third last time out in the G3 Belle Mahone Stakes at Woodbine. This time, she’s a 12-1 shot to prevail under Ryan Munger.
And now for the other weekend entries:
Sunday
Woodbine Dream Shake – Race 7, Allowance Optional Claiming
Monmouth Park Speed Warning – Race 9, Allowance Penzance – Race 10, Maiden Special Weight
