Weekend Update!

Before we dive into the weekend's action (which includes the 2026 debut of stable star Tom's Magic), there's the not-so-little matter of Contemplation's latest battling success to savor.

JJE Thoroughbreds' Contemplation (pictured above) was settled off the pace by jockey James Graham in the 4th at Fair Grounds on Thursday. At the top of the stretch, Contemplation caught a wet sail, one-by-one picking off his rivals to claim the bob just in the nick of time.

This was Contemplation's second success in a row, and his 5th career victory overall. What a fine servant this 5-year-old son of Street Boss has been to the stable over the years.

And now for the weekend runners, headed by the return to action tomorrow of Tom's Magic in the $175,000 G3 Tampa Bay Stakes, a turf contest over 1 and 1/16th miles.

Drawn 7 of 8 under jockey Rafael Hernandez, Tom's Magic makes his first start since finishing a fine second in the G1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar last November. He's a Morning Line 3-1 shot to make it a winning one.

Over at Oaklawn Park, Energize is going for gold in the $135,000 General MacArthur Overnight Stakes, over 1 and 1/8th miles.

Third last time out in the Last Hurrah Stakes, Energize is gunning for his first stakes win. Luis Saez takes the mount.
